Favorite Anchorage in the Caribbean ?

What is your favorate place to anchor in the entire caribbean that is safe, has easy anchoring for a 32 ft monohull, and great beaches. Any trip ideas are great. I will have my boat by mid-January in the islands. I know the islands pretty well, but have only been to a couple. Thanks.

The best in my book would be white sand beach on Jost Van Dyke, inside the barrier reef with ten feet depth under the keel. Walk over the hill to Foxy's for his week end bar b que. BVI have so many good spots it really isn't hard to find what you're looking for. Everything depends on wind direction. Plan accordingly.
all the best,

Thanks for the input. I have heard that the BVI are beutiful. Have you seen any other islands like that? I am alone so is there an island that will keep me opccupied for multiple weeks? I am interested in tours and facts, so an island with a rich history? Thanks again.

11 mile beach on Barbuda (near Antigua).

And, I'll chime in before Hud does, the beach at Nevis.

Thanks

I appreciate everybodys input and I am looking forward to getting my Hunter 30. Can't wait. I think I am going to go to Barbuda as one of my first destinations. The water there looks unbelievable. Anybody who has been there let me know. I am also excited to visit Nevis, and the BVI.

I would cast my vote for the North Sound, Virgin Gorda, BVI. Several anchorages and/or mooring fields, secluded areas around Prickly Pear, busier areas close to Saba Rock, Bitter End or Leverick. Protected in any weather.

Orient Bay St. Martin for an interesting cultural experience and people

Great Camanoe, BVI for a bay I usually have to myself with all sorts of wildlife

Many more in the Bahamas, but they don't quite make the Caribbean.

Thanks for the Nevis plug, Hannah.

There are too many great anchorages to count. One of our favorites is the Tobago Cays in the Grenadines.

Here's a photo of the beach Evans referred to--11 miles of white sand, and the most turquoise water you'll ever see.

And perhaps only 2 or 3 or 4 boats anchored along the 11miles . . . because its about 30 miles upwind from the 400 boats clustered in English and falmouth harbours.

Green island is also pretty nice . . . I have spend a couple Christmases anchored, tucked in tight to the beach, there when Beth has flown back to family. Its certainly not as secluded as Barbuda and its a pain for a few hours a day when the charter day cats come in, but otherwise very peaceful.

On the NE of antigua there are another couple of nice islands inside the reef - great bird and pigeon (I think). The water is not as nice color as Barbuda and Green, but they are off the normal track so very peaceful.

Has anybody visited the ABC islands? If so, how is the sailing down there? Worth the visit?

We just got back from there this past Sunday. My overall impression is it was a long way to go for run of the mill island atmosphere. Curacao is dirty, the water is polluted, natives only interest is seperating the tourist from his money. Bonaire is better water with fair diving but generaly over rated. Once you get off the tourist path the dirt and squalor supercedes the charm. Aruba was not visited but it didn't have any apeal for me after the other two. There's too many other great places that are better and closer.

Thanks for the heads up. Its a long way from me so I will have to rethink if it is really worth it.
