Fast Ferry to Bimini

Bimini is about to get very crowded. According to Bahamas Chatter, the long awaited fast ferry between Miami and Bimini began Saturday, February 9th. The Maverick Dos arrived in Bimini with 200 passengers from south Florida. Three crossings a week are planned on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, departing Miami at 0900 and Bimini at 1700. The 39 meter ferry’s top speed is reported to be 32 knots and the travel time for the trip is estimated to be under two and half hours. The special offer beginning fare is $49 per journey when you buy a round trip ticket. A new casino in Bimini is said to be opening in 10 weeks.
Mariners entering and exiting Bimini Harbour should keep a sharp lookout for the ferry transiting the channel and maneuvering in the harbour. It is not known at this time whether periodic dredging will continue in the channel.
