Entering Bahamas with Temporary USCG Documentation

Well, this is my fault. We changed the hailing port on our boat when we moved to florida but I did not realize that this required a whole new USCG documentation.

We were planning on going to the Bahamas but I now know that we won't be getting my real documentation for many months (I just spoke to the CG and they just started send out docs for applications received in July). In the meantime they are issuing temporary documentation.

Has anyone successfully entered the Bahamas using their temporary documentation?

I haven't done it, but I've read accounts posted here of people clearing in using just their state registration. I certainly recommend verifying that however.

I cleared in with just state registration 2 months ago. No problem at all

TCODs are a valid documentation certificate and acceptable documentation for domestic or foreign officials.

I have the same worry about entering Mexico in 2weeks.

To the Bahamas, no problem. We did it. People do it all the time. When people in South Florida get new boats, especially sportsfisher boats, they like to head across. So the Bahamas, especially Bimini, are very familiar and fine with it. Other countries, I'm afraid the ease varies based on specific location and agent. But generally state registration is accepted. The only people who I've heard of encountering problems are those in states that don't register documented boats. Even in their cases the temporary documentation should be ok, but sometimes the first agent doesn't see it that way.

We will have both our florida registration and our temp USCG... so I think we will be in good shape.

If you call the USCG documentation office and explain to them that you are planning an international trip, they will expedite your paperwork. We did exactly the same thing as you ( submitted application to change hailing port) six months prior to our departure and two weeks prior to departure were still in the que. When I called and explained the situation, the USCG asked me to resubmit app with note on it that we had an international departure in 10 days. 4 days later, new Docs arrived.
