Easy Immigration Check-in Returning from Bahamas

Hey fellow sailors,
We're returning home to Florida after a while in the Bahamas and are wondering where the EASIEST Immigration check-in for Cruisers is in South Florida? Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Lake Worth, Jupiter Inlet, St Lucie Inlet?

We have the Customs Decal but that doesn't help with Immigration.

Ive always checked in at miami. Where the cruise ships dock there is an office right there. I dont think you can dock anywhere in the port of miami but you can dock at bayside shops and get a short taxi ride or a long walk over. I think its like a mile.

Immigration is a new problem as of 3/31. When we returned thru Bermuda 3 weeks ago, we landed in Baltimore, MD. A call to Customs was easy but we were intructed to go to BWI airport for Immigration Clearance. Luckily we had a car and drove our crew of 5 to the airport and the international terminal office of Homeland Security. When we got there, as the regs were new, they didn't know how to clear us in. It took over an hour to get the paperwork done.

Last time I returned from the Bahamas('07), Lake Worth worked very well, there's an immigration office by one of the marinas just south of the bridge. I landed the dinghy at a park beach between the office and the bridge and walked over to the office, no problems.

if you go into Port Everglades you probably WILL need a car or a taxi (or bike), it's a couple of miles to C&I, depending on where you put down. Not sure how close you can get by water, but for sure there are people here who do know...

The fuel dock at Govt. Cut in Miami has a free phone to immigration. Last time we were there they were actually on the dock, and did all of our paperwork there. Do not throw away your garbage. They want to do that for you. They as of last June were extremely concerned about any garbage coming in. I think there was a certain insect they were looking for.....i2f
