We are in Jax headed south and looking for a place to haul out and do a bit of work ourselves. We heard Crackerboy in West Palm was good.
I have 8'4" draft.
anyone have advice?

Crackerboy is excellent with very good and efficient workers. Phil the manager is the most helpful manager I have ever met in a yard. The local area is a bit rough, the liquor store looks like Mat Dillon's jail, but security in the yard is excellent.

They hauled a racing boat that draws 19 ft so you will have no problems but it gets shallow between the lift and the fuel dock 100 yds north but I got 9ft in at high tide.The tide can be difficult if you are not used to 2-3 knot currents.

Playboy Marine in Ft. Lauderdale
on the Dania Cut-Off Canal (760 Taylor Rd. Dania-Ft. Lauderdale) is an excellent DIY yard, with several "resident" contractors working there. Outside contractors are also welcome.

My friends live in Pembroke Pines so this is a good find.
Any idea what the depth is like there?

i need at least 9'

I have had a good experience with Cracker Boy in Ft. Pierce. They are very professional and easy to deal with.

Regarding 9' depth; Cracker boy in Ft. Pierce is NOT deep enough, Cracker Boy in Riviera Beach is plenty deep, and I'm not sure about the depths at Playboy, but the Dania Cutoff Canal is deep enough. I don't think there are any other options for DIY with 9' depth.

Ask Playboy.
Playboy carries over 6 Ft L.W. at the dock, so should have over 9 Ft at high water. Play the tide.
I worked a 10 Ft draft trawler, just next door (east) at the commercial facility. The Captain had a firm departure time/date, to catch his required tide.

Since your 2 criteria are -

1. Do it yourself yard.

2. At least 9 foot water depth

Cape Marina in Port Canaveral meets both requirements.

They also allow live aboard while on the hard for a small daily fee.

HA! thats where I am right now. It's funny you mentioned it.
It's cold here right now and we want to get south a bit further.
My old Navy buddy is down by Ft Liquordale area and we wanted to hang for a couple weeks and get work done before heading south for bluer waters.

It is a wee bit cold. Funny how we acclimate. This is summer weather home on S.F. Bay, and I am whining here in Jax. Are you headed home? We should be there this late spring, and them home to S.F. by early summer.........i2f

We are going back to Honolulu for a year then back to semi retirement in the PACNORwest. We love Victoria and desolation Sound.
Mostly I like sitting in the middle of the Pacific high as far away from phones as a man can get.
and then spend 6 weeks playing the stereo REALLY LOUD!

I did the Honolulu to San Fran trip last year on a Bene 423. I decided I wanted something hardier under me next time.
