We are currently in the Rio and headed north. The question is: should we stop in
Belize?
We are mainly interested in visiting Placencia for the first time & Caye Caulker (to retrace our honeymoon steps) -- any thoughts on
anchorages here?
Other than these cities and due to several factors, we are really planning to move through
Belize quite quickly on our way to
Mexico.
Our concerns for cruising Belize are the costs and check-in procedures. Can anyone provide recent info of the costs per vessel/per person?
Also, we have a dog aboard and would love info on his entrance
fees (we know he needs to get vet clearance a week before we arrive). Also, while he is good with people, he is not good with other
dogs. So, can anyone speak to the officials bringing a drug/agriculture dog aboard during the check-in process?
We know some cruisers do not check into Belize on their way north or south because they just stop to rest for a night or so on the outer cayes. Can anyone speak to the risks of this?
Finally, we have some guests aboard who may travel with us from the Rio to Belize. I'm not sure if we could drop them in Placencia (without checking in) and then
head on to
Mexico. Any experience here on whether this is possible/not so/smart/how it would practically effect us on our crew list?
Pfew! That's a lot of questions but I appreciate any thoughts offered.
