Cuba for American Boats ?

We are looking to sail from the Florida keys to Cuba and then Jamaica, on a U.S. registered sailboat. We have done some research and it looks like Americans are sailing to Cuba, but it also looks like you need to get certain permits, such as a license issued by the U.S. department of commerce, the U.S. department of treasury and so on…

We'll appreciate any information regarding sailing to Cuba these days, permits, border and customs in key west and any other relevant information.

Your are right.

You will easily find plenty of info on the regulations enforced by OFAC (Treasury Dept) that apply to US citizens.

Few people are aware of the separate set of regulations enforced by BIS (Dept of Commerce) that apply (loosely speaking) to US-made boats even if the people on board are not subject to the OFAC rules.

On top of all that, you may still have some regulations/procedures enforced by US Coast Guard.
