Cruising the Caribbean 4 months a year

My wife and I are long time sailors and boat owners looking to get away from the cold northwest coast winters for a minimum of 4 months per year in retirement. The plan is to buy an ex charter cat in the Caribbean (We have done numerous charters in the BVI’s) but are wondering where the best place would be to store the boat (probably dry storage) when not in use during hurricane season and the off months. Obviously security and price would be a factor in the decision.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

If by Caribbean you just mean E Carib then the southern most islands like Grenada/Trinidad are popular options as hurricanes are rare.

Further W the ABC's are also very unlikely to get a 'cane. Then there is Cartagena, Colombia a beautiful city with marinas and dry storage options. Next is Panama which is effectively hurricane free (1 landfall in NOAA records, 1 spun up in Panama waters, but made landfall in Costa Rica)...several marinas, some w dry storage, to choose from. Next is the Rio Dulce in Guatemala...a very popular option if in the NW Carib...never has a hurricane entered the Rio in recorded history (Mitch tried and failed).

Re: Cruising the Caribbean 4 months a year

Many people store in Grenada, which is a lovely spot, or Trinidad and do a leisurely trip north and then south again during their winter time sojourn. Don't leave it too late to reserve a spot for haul out. Marinas in Grenada are often full.
