Cruising Mexico's East Coast

I haven't been able to find much information on cruising along the East Coast of Mexico, say from Bownsville, TX down through Tampico, Veracuz, Villahermosa, Merida, etc.
Have any of the cruisers here had experience along that route or know where I can get some information? Suggestions, comments?

I've done lots of research into that area. There is not much there to draw a cruiser. Very few islands, very few safe ports, very commercial.
Let me know if you find any info that contradicts what I've found.

I have also been thinking about cruising that part of Mexico, it looks from the charts as if Tampico and Veracruz might be doable, but can find no info. If any one can provide a lead into getting more info it would be greatly appreciated

According to Noonsite, the only places to enter Mexico are via the Cancun area. Is there any way to check in if you want to coast hop your way south from Texas?

There used to be an annual rally from the texas coast to Veracruz. About 100 sailboats particiapted every year. Veracruz was a real Mexican town without tourists. Nice place to visist. Navigation was reasonable.

There is absolutely nothing on their site about any cruise to Mexico.

There are few if any unlighted oil rigs from Galveston to Brownsville. Are there a lot from Texas on down?

I have an older guide by Nigel Calder with some excellent info, having recently come from that area, I would say its great. Seems this site has its share of people who think theirs is the only view.

Hi Nirvana maybe when you get a chance you could tell us abit about your trip and what you found along the way anchorages or ports. I have seen a good bit of material from Cancun down to Belize but not much on the coast between Cancun and the TX border. Any information on that part of the coast?

I have sailed the Texas coast for many years and worked as a Captain on crewboats off Texas. There are hundreds of unlit structures between Galveston and Brownsville. I am not sure about South of Brownsville but I wouldn't be within 200 miles of the coats without a radar watch.

I would be interested in hearing of your experiences also. I am about to cross 650 miles from Galveston to Isla Mujeres again and a coastal hopping option is always attractive.
