Since my bareboat charter crew "jumped ship", I am now scheduled for a "tall ship" experience leaving Panama in a couple of weeks. I am to stay in Costa Rica a couple of nights, by choice, before returning to Baltimore, (BWI.) Anyone stayed in Costa Rica recently? Help !

My wife and daughter recently spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and stayed several different places.

Maybe give me some kind of idea exactly what sort of Help ! you need: hotel, city, restaurant recommendations, places to visit, other???

Assuming you're flying out of SJO, and that you only have a couple of days. That narrows it down to the San Jose area unless you feel like moving the whole time. Just do some research on trip advisor or lonely planet and find some things you like to do there. Costa Rica is well known for its national parks and rainforests with lots of biodiversity, lots of elevation changes and it can be cold. I've never actually spent a night in San Jose, usually staying on friends farms near cartago, atenas or cobano. Cattle ranches, coffee, bananas etc

Cobano, and the nicoyan peninsula is pretty sweet. We drive for miles along open pacific beaches well into guanacaste.

If you don't feel confident renting a car, check out some excursions you can buy into from SJO. If you're sailing the Caribbean you may want to make a point to check out one if the closer pacific beaches. If you rent a car, make sure it is 4wd if you're feeling adventurous. Sucks to be stuck on the beach at low tide in a rental

The seafood is good, and I could crush some rice and beans with a couple fried eggs and salsa luziano, or a big bowl of ceviche.

Right now, mainly interested in hotel accommodations.... The Tall Ship Cruise line only referred me to a $350/night place. Thanks for all responses.

Hotel accomdations where in CR?

CR is the most expensive country in CA but you can still find very nice accommodations for WAY less than $350 per night.

Try www.tripadvisor.com. Good travel reviews site.

Jan it ain't that hard. Orbitz has 86 hotels for $45 and up, many under $100.

There's a place by the bus station in San Jose cost me $7/night 10 years ago. I'd guess its still there. Each room is partitioned from the others has a single bed and night stand. Bath down the hall.

I stayed in Fortuna for $10/ night. In Montezuma for $40/ night the place in Montezuma was like a motel 6, but on the beach. All this was ten years ago. I just arrived and asked around.

Tamarindo Beach.. Surf Village ..one of my favorite places.. $50 a night . Pura Vida !

My friend Peter has a place that I have stayed at several years in San Jose, about a mile from the Best Western Irazu. Its a Hostel, but more like a bed and breakfast. He will have taxi pick you up or drop you at the airport, and you don't need a rental car, anywhere you want to tour the bus will pick you up at your doorstep and drop you off. His rates are 35.00/night I believe. Let me know if you need more information.

Are you entering Costa Rica on a Windjammer cruise into Golfito and if so, are they sending you to Casa Roland? Are you looking for a hotel in Golfito or for San Jose on your way out of country? We live in Playa Zancudo near Golfito and can recommend hotels in either place.
