Cost of Living in Cartagena, Colombia

We've seen some great reports on this site of the general facilities and safety in Cartagena... Wondering if someone could venture comments on general costs in the city. We have a job offer that includes a housing allowance (yes, they'll let us apply it to marina fees) and we're trying to determine if we'll still be eating through the cruising kitty or be able to live/enjoy the country to a degree on one salary (and two visas-working and spouse).
Any estimates on costs beyond boat work are greatly appreciated.

I've visited there a few years back. Cost of living was low (beer was $0.25 a bottle in the local cantinas) and since it is a big vacation area, it was pretty safe. Lots of islands and coves out there and even a reef to snorkle or dive on.

I will probably return there again someday.

Just spent 9 weeks there. Costs generally much lower than Florida as long as you live as a Colombian. Living the "American Dream" costs the same as Miami.

Only 2 marinas usable near the City, Club Nautico is dubious at best and Club de la Pesca is expensive.

Check with Imagine2Frolic--They were there in 2010. I am sure he has some good advice.

If you can put your cost to the marina, and live like a Colombian. You should be able to do fine. If you shop in the clean American style grocery you will pay dearly for everthing.

The grocery next to Club Nautico had a lunch counter, and it cost half as much to eat there as it did to buy the same groceries. CORRECT, anything geared toward tourist is higher than Miami. Living there will give you the chance to find where things are reasonable.

In June it was miserable hot, or storming a torrential downpour. You will need a/c.......i2f
