Colombia propane and diesel availability?

I'm trying to find out if I can get a US style propane tank filled in Cartagena. I've also been told there is only bio diesel available, I would rather have standard diesel.

Thanks for the info.

We had no problem filling US propane tanks at Club Nautico.

Paul is right, you can get US propane tanks filled there. Usually you drop them off at a marina and pick them up the next day. Your also right on the bio diesel . We did take some on as we had no choice but many of the sailors were trying to avoid it. Didn't have any problems with it.

Re: Colombia propane and diesel availability?

Great on the propane. Arghh on the diesel. We left Bocas del Toro with as much propane as we could, and fuel tanks mostly topped off. But 4 months in the San Blas will empty our propane(wife likes holiday baking). I planned on topping up fuel before run to Puerto Rico, but will have to skimp on genset time to not worry about reserve when making that run. No real reason I'm against bio diesel, but don't like varying from SOP before a passage like that.

Thanks for the info, any other must knows about Cartagena are appreciated.

sit back and enjoy it - it is a wonderful city - one of our favorites

Oh on bio diesel - might want to think twice about putting enzyme stuff in your tank to keep it clean -

Re: Colombia propane and diesel availability?

OK robert sailor,

How about water quality, and from where. We have only made water since leaving the states, as most dock water seemed undesirable. I assume I won't be running the RO system in that harbor from the stories I have heard. Thought about running out to Rosario's if need be and make water out there...

Looking forward to it, as we really enjoyed Providencia and San Andres. It will also be nice to be back in civilization for a bit as we have not been in a "real city" for some time.

Re: Colombia propane and diesel availability?

Hello every body,
We did not refill propane.
About diesel, it is not bio diesel, but 5% bio diesel added to normal diesel. Our old Volvo Penta worked perfectly with it.
