City Island Mooring / Anchorage Info

I'm thinking about stopping at City Island New York for a day or two at some point this season. Probably would like to hang on a mooring. I'm not a member of any yacht club so I'd like to have recommendations for marinas that rent moorings and have a place for simple provisions nearby. A launch service would be nice too. Though a dingy dock would do. Would like to hear about recomendations on anchorage possibilities too.

Three marinas/YC's offer transient moorings and launch service, per my 2006 Maptech guide:

Harlem YC 718-885-1225
North Minneford YC 718-885-2000
Barrons Boatyard 718-885- 9802

City Island is a cool place to visit.... have fun.

Stuyvesant Yacht Club has guest moorings. Channel 72. Friendly and welcoming. Nice restaurant with excellent views.

There on the west side of the island (Center Street)

Avoid Consolidated - they're pirates. John Barron is a decent chap.

Check out the marine museum - it's worth a few hrs.

Stuyvesant also runs a very friendly launch service.

And I just emailed and got a quick reply - their facilities are only for small boats. Probably under 40ft - but you would need to email them to find out the actual size limitations - it is not on their website.

To visit the museum is the main reason I'm heading there. Looks like it's only open on weekends though. I'll plan my trip accordingly. Thanks to all for the info.

Yes, I can second that. Stuyvesant is very convenient and they'll get you to shor and you can walk to a lot of places. Cheap too, as I recall.

Active Captain shows some free town moorings inside Manhassett Bay which is just to the south.
That is right at the town of Port Washington which is not without it's charms and conveniences and is well protected.
+1 for ActiveCaptain

North Hempstead (Town of) Moorings

My wife and I moored over night two weeks ago on one of the Town of North Hempstead's moorings as mentioned earlier. There are a half dozen or so, yellow mooring balls pretty much right where Activecaptian puts them. #7 has lost it's pennant but we took it anyway as it was the last open one for the day. We had to McGyver it a little by bending on heavy shackle and heavy dock line. The town's very friendly water taxi is $4 per passenger one way and they run until about 11pm. They monitor 9/71.

I would check North Minneford, it looks like they have several open/transient moorings available.

There is a laundromat, 2 grocery stores and 2 marine/hardware stores on the island. The City Island Yacht Sales dock has Gas/Diesel and pumpout. 8:30-4:30 Mon-Sat.

There's a 15 min. bus ride to a subway station if you want to dip into the big city too.

Send a message via Skype™ to Auspicious
another happy interaction with Barron's. I anchored up between Rat and Hart and dinghyed into Barrons. The folks there were great. Two blocks to the museum - much closer than the marinas and yacht clubs on the west side.
