Cheap Layup in Trinidad to Venezuela area?

Catamarans are great - Marina costs kill though.
Does anybody know a good deal for a 6 months layup in SE-Caribbean?
On mooring would be ok too as long as well supervised.
Thanks, Axel

Try the TTSA in Harts Cut Bay in Trinidad. They have moorings which were quite well priced for long term. Was secure and well supervised but have not been there for a few years. Do a Google and send them an email.

Thanks a lot. Had a quick research in the net and looked at it on gmaps.
Looks really good: quiet and protected and since I have a Vespa aboard Port of Spain is not out of reach.
Will keep you posted. Good winds Axel

Curacao Marine in Wilemsted, Curacao has reasonable priced long term storage in a secure lot. They haul big cats. Prices on their web site. Curacao is not humid, so the boats do pretty well there.

Prickly Bay Marina has moorings, Grenada.

I would not recommend Venezuela due to security concerns... But its certainly cheap.

Illegal for forigners to buy diesel in Venezuela.

I got some but it was very iffy legally.

If I went there again I would bring in fuel to get out again.

One guy was fined USD$7,000 for gerry jugging in a taxi.

The place to buy diesel in Cumina at the marina needs paperwork that you get from a town 200 kms west where you pay for it, and then when you get back to the marina they wont give you the fuel.

Venezuela is a problem child of a country.

Hey Mark -

Not to steal the thread, but is it completely illegal or can cruisers get fuel at a higher/non-subsidized price?

Lsorry, i wasn't quite clear.
It is illegal for forigners to buy diesel at petrol stations etc. as its subsidised by the government and sold at a very low price.
Forigners can buy it at an international price, was 80c per litre, IF they have paid that price in a government office.
The government office was 200 Kms from the city I was in.
Other people went and paid for the fuel and then when they came back the marina wold not give them the fuel because they are not allowed to sell to forigners. Catch 22 lives again.

In other words. Its illegal, with exceptions, but you can't satisfy the exceptions.

Mark
