Channel Silting at Longboat Pass
For those sailing on the southwest coast of Florida, some friends with a sister ship to ours drawing 6.5' discovered that the channel in Longboat Pass between the Longboat Key Bridge and the Sea Bouy has silted in at approximately N27 26.333 W82 41.828 such that they were unable to make it through the channel at a mid-tide approximately 1 week ago.
They were attempting to traverse the channel in light winds and approximately 2 foot seas when they went aground. After repeatedly backing off and attempting alternate courses they abandond the effort and returned to the ICW through the Longboat Key Bridge.
