Central America in Spring 2014?

Hi Caribbean and Gulf cruisers. I gave up my last land dwelling on 17 Apr of this year. I've been refitting my 1974 24 ft Grampian sloop, Taylor Lynn, from daysailer to liveaboard ever since. You can check out my progress on my blog, approachtozero@blogspot.com, if you want, but be forewarned, there is a lot about politics, Buddhism, God and drugs there too.

This is my first post, and I'm looking for advice concerning a month long cruise this spring.

I'm hoping to raise anchor memorial day weekend, and don't want to come back to work before the third week in June. I'd like to see Belize, but am uncertain about the best route.

I am just starting my research. Current maps of the gulf don't look promising. Should I cross the stream to Cuba then head West, and work my way around the gulf to come back? Or is there a better way? Is a month enough time?

I've been reading you guys for awhile. I'm looking forward to being part of this community. I know there's a lot of flotsom out there, but also a lot of really good advice. I'm hoping for the latter. Thanks in advance.
