Cell Phone for Mexico, Guatamala, Honduras

Come December, we'll be casually cruising from Isla Mujeres, South to Guatamala (Rio Dulce) then on to the Honduras. Are there any local, short term cell phone systems that cover those locales.

Will, No short term service with a provider but you can buy a prepaid phone for about $20.00 and add minutes whenever you need them. They usually want you to add minutes every 30 days whether you use all you have or not. But that only runs about $10.00 per month minimum and the cost to call the States or wherever is pretty cheap. You can sell the phone to other cruisers or locals when you leave the area and recover some of your costs. Worked great for us for about 18 months.

That's what I needed to know

I'll pick up a phone when I hit Isla Mujures.

Thanks,

Will, If you won't stay long in Mexico you might want to wait till you are a bit further south. Most of your cruising in Belize will be in the out islands were there is little or no service. The Rio is a place you will spend some time and the phones work well and are cheap. Just a little more info.
