Re: Carnival Cruises to start going to Cuba

Well if you go down south everyone there thinks the civil war ended yesterday.

By the continued headlines in the news lately and our present government sometimes I think it is still going on.

Messege driven home. Get the unwashed masses out so you can enjoy your personal eden.

I wonder if you would be singing the same tune if they got rid of all the cruise ships and then followed up by kicking you because they are setting a quota on cruising yatchs and you've already used up your and your kids time.

Re: Carnival Cruises to start going to Cuba

Back in the 1970's, early 80's, Americans could take Russian cruise ships to Cuba, disembark, and see Cuba, before returning. Both of my brothers took these cruises as senior trips in 1978 and 1981.

One of the brothers went back five times starting about 2010 on humanitarian missions. He said it was amazing how little Cuba had changed in thirty years. A living breathing time machine.

Re: Carnival Cruises to start going to Cuba

I apologize for my last crass, generalization. I have lived and worked in the south a long time over the years and while it is true that some people there are still fighting the civil war, most have moved on, except for some politicians in South Carolina.

Re: Carnival Cruises to start going to Cuba

I have no desire to cruise on a cruise ship. However, I do recognize their economic boost to the ports they visit and it's very significant to an area. I've seen it from Alaska to Panama to Mexico. They provide business for shop owners. They also pay substantial fees for use of the ports. And, as to the pleasure boater, the cruise ships often lead to upgraded facilities for our use. The fact divers have done damage in the Cayman Islands is a regulatory problem of Cayman, not the fault of the cruise ships. Sure, eliminate all tourists. How about all visitors. Then the islands would be protected. Impoverished perhaps, but protected. Of course that could also exclude any of us visiting.

Just about now... 1.5 years into our cruising lifestyle... if we had been renting a room on one of the cruise ship monsters we are just now reaching how much we have spent on the sailboat. So, its all bonus from now on out!

Well, cruise ships aren't for us, and I think we're among the group that doesn't go on cruises, knowing it's not for them. That's why still of those who do, most enjoy. The exceptions being those who have a cruise ship break down or everyone gets sick on board.

Riding on a cruise ship is like riding on a Honda, it's a lot of fun until someone you know sees you .

I did, too. I went, prepared to not like it as much as being on my own boat. But, I have to admit, I had a good time.
