I notice they don't mention Cuba. I guess the report must be an American one. I've been to a lot of the islands and I would rank Grand Caymans as the safest followed by Cuba.

I would agree! I have sailed up the Eastern Caribbean as far North as TCI then over to Cayman Islands.
I have had a few things go missing from the deck in different locations. I spent a week in Cuba in March and never even locked the boat. Will go back in a heartbeat. Would love to get lost there for a couple of years.......ah cruising dreams.

I've had my boat in the Grenada/ St. Vincent/ St. Lucia area since '01 and have had no problems whatsoever - and seldom lock a hatch. Did hear of a couple of boarding incidents last year in the North West area of St. Vincent, but the culprits were caught (luckily for them by the authorities and not the outraged locals!). Occasionally hear of an unlocked dinghy going astray at night or a boat vendor overcharging, but nothing more.

We had our boat boarded only one time in the Caribbean at night in Grenada, and since our companionway doors were closed and locked, they left without causing any problems on board. The only evidence of their presence was their muddy footprints in the cockpit that we discovered in the morning.

Yesterday on the evening news here in Phoenix, they said that last year there were over 300 drug related kidnappings in the Phoenix area.

Let me see? Which is safer? Sailing in the Caribbean or cruising the streets of Phoenix?

I'm ready to head back to the Caribbean !

Why does everyone forget the rest of the Caribbean , the western carib. Belize, mexico, Cuba, Jamaca , Cayman,etc. I've travelled from columbia to jamaca and west. Lived in cayman about 5 yrs. the worst place for boarding and petty stuff was
hondras and the worst for everything was collon, Panama. We were warned to take a cab to cross the street. Still most places I feel safer that my home town cities (canada) after bar closes.
