Canary Island Marina recommendation

We are planning to cross to the Canary Islands from Spain in October 2016, stay in a marina through early January 2017, and then head towards the Cape Verdes and Caribbean.

It sounds like most of the marinas on Gran Canaria and Tenerife kick boats out that don't have an annual contract for the few weeks in Nov/Dec that the ARC comes through.

Does anyone have recommendations for safe marinas on any of the islands where we could stay for the 3 months or so that can accommodate a 52-foot sail boat with a 6.6 foot draft ?

Many thanks,

Jim and Barbara

Re: Canary Island Marina recommendation

Try the new marina in Lanzarote, it's a natural place to land in the Canaries.

Re: Canary Island Marina recommendation

There are three marinas in Lanzarote, from Arrecife (its capital) to the island's southernmost tip: Marina Lanzarote, Puerto Calero and Marina Rubicón.

The first is the one mentioned by Robert Sailor, and was our departing base for a transat last November. It'a a brand new marina with good services, and very competitive prices.

Re: Canary Island Marina recommendation

I am berthed in Marina Rubicón, near Playa Blanca on Lanzarote since November 2015. I like it a lot, nice people, good service, clean sanitary, a lot of restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets nearby. The laundry facilities are a bit expensive (4 € for a washing machine and 4 € for a dryer).

Re: Canary Island Marina recommendation

Puerto Mogan,

I have stayed there three times before departing for the west indies, well protected, nice restaurants, good equipment chandlers and the folks are friendly. It is out of the frenetic ARC crowd, and when departing, it is a straight shot. It is nice to see the island you just left from disappear astern rather than spend the next 8 hours sailing around it.

have a good crossing,

Re: Canary Island Marina recommendation

I have lived here for many years. I would try La Gomera but the last time I was there, there was no electricity or adequate toilets/showers, although they have recently re-jigged the pontoons so it's no longer a 1000m walk around to the town.
La Palma is lovely, I would go to Tazacorte on the west coast, new marina, gorgeous.
Marina Lanzarote is good and really close to the town including all the chandlers. Rubicon also in Lanzarote is good too. Good luck.
