Chesapeake and Delaware Bay Canal, located between the two bays of the east coast (Maryland) and connecting them.

Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C & D Canal)</B>
The 14-mile long Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C & D Canal) crosses the northern Delaware/Maryland peninsula, and its eastern mouth is at Reedy Point, Delaware, on the Delaware River, with its western mouth at Chesapeake City, Maryland, on Chesapeake Bay. The name of the canal reflects the names of the two water bodies that it connects.

Thanks for the clarification.
Anybody hurt on the sailboat and why does it require the Corp of Engineers to remove the sailboat?
Also, why the heck were people moving a sailboat during one of the worst winter storm periods in decades?

I would hazard a guess that the Corps of Engineers is removing the sailboat would mean it sank. The canal is operated by the Corps of Engineers.

I can't speak to the weather as we left town but the weekend before was a bad storm, not sure what the weather was that day.

Notice to Mariners C&D Canal Closed Until Further Notice
PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The C&D canal linking Chesapeake and Delaware Bays has been closed while the while the Army Corps of Engineers removes a sunken sailing vessel involved in a collision last night.
The canal was closed after a collision between the sailing vessel and the tugboat Schuylkill.
The three person crew aboard the sailing vessel were rescued and transferred to local EMS personnel for treatment.
The incident is under investigation.

That's all I could find as far as sailing this time of year I dont see an issue. As long as you watch the weather. Last night the weather wasn't bad. In some ways the sailing is better this time of year. No thunderstorms.

Back in May, 2007, a tug collided in the C&D Canal with the classic 45' yacht Heron, sinking it almost instantly. The skipper and his two daughters were rescued by the tug's crew.

Is this deja vu?
