BVIs Boat Repair/Rigger/Diesel Mechanic

We just completed purchase of a Catalina-Morgan 38 on Tortola and are looking to comply with the survey recommendations, which require some work on rigging, keel bolt nuts, above/at waterline thru-hulls and engine. Any recommendations on a good bets for a rigger, diesel mechanic and the thru-hull and keel bolt work? Boat in at Nanny Cay. Thanks!
Doug

Doug, you're surrounded at Nanny Cay by fleets of charter boats. Have you considered asking them who they use? Or are you asking if someone on this forum has a recent personal experience?

Stu, Was looking for any relatively recent personal experience, but your suggestion is a good one. Thanks.

Use richardsons rigging and use parts and power for engine etc. Ask for Sanchez to be your mechanic. I had great experience as my hunter 49 was there for three years.

Re: BVIs Boat Repair/Rigger/Diesel Mechanic

I'm on my 4th boat and kept them at Nanny Cay for the most part.

I use Richardson's Rigging all the time for anything related to the pointy-thing going up from the deck. I've also had good experiences with BVI Marine Management (right by the travelift). If you bought the boat at Nanny Cay then you probably used BVI Yacht Sales and they will be able to recommend appropriate people for the work you need done - they've been in business there a long time and know their people.

Speaking from experience, I would recommend biting the bullet and slogging the 80NM upwind to St. Martin to get labor and parts-intensive work done to the boat. Everything ends up being about half of the Tortola price. Also, since this is a new-to-you boat, you will be purchasing all sorts of items for it, and that, too, is best done in St. Martin.

Happy Together and Zanshin,

Thanks very much for all the information and advice. Greatly appreciated. Hope we have the chance to share a Sundowner next season.
