Buying a boat in Grenada

I am looking at a boat located in Grenada, on which I would like to make an offer.
I am a US citizen, presently living in the US. The boat is offered for sale by an owner living in Europe. Do I have to pay Grenada VAT in a used boat purchase in Grenada? The boat will not be left in Granada for a prolonged period after the sale.
Does any body have recommendations of a good surveyor(s)?
The boat is offered for sale by the owner. Will a broker be necessary for the closing?
Any advice concerning buying and keeping in boat in Grenada will be greatly appreciated.

DT

The only exemption from VAT I'm aware of in Granada is for yachts in transit.
I'd also make sure that this boat didn't undergo extensive repairs caused by Hurricane Ivan.

Re: Buying a boat in Grenada

A friend sold his boat in Grenada two years ago to a US citizen living in Texas. There were no difficulties, no taxes, no delays, but a broker was involved.

sail it to Sint Maarten for the transaction and you are in a tax free zone!

I have a good friend who's a liveaboard in Grenada at Hog Island and runs a successful marine carpentry shop out of Port Louis. He's not a surveyor but he could certainly hook you up. PM me if you're interested and I'll make the introduction.
