pirate Re: Bound for Cuba

I'm trying to figure out the best way to hitch on a sailboat headed to Cuba. I'm a US citizen and am thinking of flying to Fort Lauderdale and going from there.

Any suggestions?
What are the busiest ports for cruising boats headed south to Cuba / the Caribbean?

I'd like to start sailing in February

Thanks!

Andrew

Having trekked the southern half of Cuba on horseback and the rest by bicycle and a scooter I can assure you that once outside the tourist areas or the major towns/cities the poverty is devastating. Take a walk through a non tourist industrial town like Moron or any of the small hill towns and you will quickly change your mind. The people are spied on by their government and even basics like shoes are a rarity. So get away from that marina, get out of that all-inclusive resort and the picture is very different ..... still great people though.

Re: Bound for Cuba

We are leaving Florida this year and we would like to to make a stop in Cuba for a week or more. I am proud to visit the country and it has been my wish for a long time. With the travel restrictions being eased, I would love some feedback from Americans who have visited the island on their boat. Thanks in advance!
