Bottom Paint For Caribbean

Any recommendations for what type (brand?) of bottom paint to use in the Caribbean?

We will be basically island hoppers (costal cruisers) on a 36ft cat.

Bought 5 liters of Jotun last week. No longer made. Currently using Ameron ABC which isn't great but seems to be better than Trinidad in local waters. Thinking of careening later this week and touching up an thin areas with ABC and applying the Jotun in Panama in about 18 months.

How can you compare Trinidad to the ablative ABC? Apples are better than oranges?

Abc is not that soft. Much harder than micron. I'm comparing that it works somewhat here and Trinidad almost doesn't after a few months.

There are at least 4 or 5 products in the Micron line of paints. Which one are you referring to?

I have ABC on our boat right now. It seems pretty soft to me. You can wash it off with a pressure washer, or the yard guys can if you are not watching. In the water it comes off very easy.

Yes, a big problem. It works and there's little need to have your bottom cleaned on a regular basis which puts people out of work.

Yeah, there's a big ethical problem involved in using it. But clearly there are those who don't care about that. It just boils down to whether being an environmental a**hole matters to you or not.

I don't know what environmental problem that is but the stuff definitely works.

that is interesting. The ABC I have was made for USCG use so maybe is a bit different than some other formulas. I had expected it to be sorta soft so I put on about 4 coats. After it initially lost effectiveness after about 6 months, I was regretting putting on that much. But is seems to have stabilized and is working as good at 18 months as it was at 6.
it does come off some in the water but I have used micron CSC and it is WAY softer. This doesn't come off on you when you rub against it gently when swimming, etc. I was thinking of haling out this winter and putting a fresh coat on but have decided I'm too cheap to pay the yard fees.
