Boat yard recommendations in Charleston

After considering Florida as a destination for trucking our boat in October, I think we are focusing more on Charleston. I am looking for suggestions for a yard to launch the boat, and would prefer to be able to do the pre-launch work myself so hopefully it will be a yard where you can do your own work. Also interested in where NOT to launch, and a recommendation for a professional rigger to do an inspection when she is re-rigged.

Have you thought about hiring a captain to sail your boat down, seems that would be easier and cheaper.

Re: Boat yard recommendations in Charleston

Our problem is being able to get the boat ready for the voyage. If I could get it ready we would just take it ourselves.

City Boat Yard can handle pretty much anything size wise and does allow DIY. They're a little pricey though for DIY storage. There are a few other yards in the area, but I think only 1 other allows DIY.

Re: Boat yard recommendations in Charleston

Kevin, Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted City Boat Yard and they look like a good choice.

In case anyone else needs information on Charleston Boatyards, I also contacted Pierside Boatworks. From what I can find online, these are the only 2 that can handle our IP40. One difference between the 2 places is that Pierside locks the boatyard up on the weekends so you will not be able to access your boat.

Pierside. That's the other one. Other yards could possibly handle her for you, but you'll run into air draft problems. City and Pierside dont have that issue.

Re: Boat yard recommendations in Charleston

A little south of Charleston is a boatyard in Rockville, call Marine Propulsion (formally called Rockville Marine). I have used every boatyard in the area and this is by far my favorite. Contact Anthony and he will take good care of you and your boat. He is currently working on mine, so don't bother him too much! marine-propulsion
