Re: Best places to charter in the Caribbean in April 2015?

We chartered a Mahe 36 from CYOA on St. Thomas in May. In a 10 day charter, we had two nights on St. John and 8 nights in the BVI including 2 on Anegada. We had a great experience with CYOA. They are a small operation, friendly, and the boat was in good shape. Their rates were also better than others in the BVI. In May, the BVI was not very crowded, even over Memorial Day weekend. In St. John, we were the only boat in Hawksnest Bay. On Anegada, we spent a day on Cow Wreck Beach and were the only ones there (aside from the friendly lady serving us Coronas and burgers). It is only 12 miles from the CYOA base to Hawksnest Bay, St. John. Yes, its upwind, but no big deal. The next morning, a quick sail to West End for BVI check in, and you then have the rest of the day to go where you want. We did the typical counter clockwise circumnavigation of Tortola with a stop in Anegada. The advantage of St. Thomas is that flights are cheaper, and you don't have the added expense and lost time of taking a ferry to Tortola. The CYOA base is 10 minutes from the airport. This means you are on your boat within a half hour of landing. If you have an afternoon flight departing St Thomas, you can stay the last night in a beautiful anchorage on St John and turn in the boat the morning of the day you fly out. Not having to worry about ferry schedules is a big plus IMO.
