Best place to land after leaving the Canary Islands to the Caribbean

What islands to visit and what ones to stay away from--and why--- I know many stop/start in St Lucia after leaving the Canarys-and following the chain of islands NW - I’m looking for safe places that are not too expensive as I sail to South Florida from the Canarys--

Huh? The only Canary Islands that I know of are off the coast of Africa. Not in the Caribbean. Did you, perhaps, mean the Cayman Islands?

Re: Best place to land after leaving the Canary Islands in the Caribbean headed to Fl

in the canary islands
isla graciosa,la sociedad has a small harbour,and anch,very picturesque.

lanzarote, puerto de naos, can anch or alongside in the inner harour ,free
" playa blanca,opp marina.

fuerta ventura, can anch behind the breakwater in puerto rosario.

gran canaria, las palmas can anch outside, but marina is reasonable, avoid being there at the same time as the arc rally.

cape verdes,mindoro,marina and good anch.

just a few worth stopping at!

i love it,cheap fuel,reasonably safe,interesting portugese/african mix of culture.
not that many good anch, but some great topography inland.

i normally stop,starting in the north,mindelo,
then sao nicolau,porto tarrafal then
santiago in baia do tarrafal
then porto da praia, before jumping off for brazil to fernando de noronha or fortaleza.
then on to tobago, trinidad, with maybe stops in french guyana and surinam.

Theft is an issue, both in the streets and from the boats. Otherwise the islands are very beautiful - some are flat and sand covered, others are volcanoes, others are rock and vegetation. They offer only one decent marina but quite a good number of good or acceptable anchorages.

I would not go alone, but I would definitely visit again in a group or on a boat with large crew.

Formalities are easy if a bit in line with the typical Portuguese style. Some produce is available but stock earlier - in Canaries. There was an outbreak of dengue some 3 years ago, now apparently less of an issue.

i've stopped there 7 times since 1989,never had any thing stolen, nor had any problems on the land, even when out late at night.

oppertunistic theft will allways be a problem if you leave stuff lying around, but it wouldn't stop me going there solo or otherwise.

i think you are in far more risk of getting mugged in the canary islands than in the cape verdes!

Muggings have been reported too.
