Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

The bay north of Lee Bay on Great Camanoe.

I'm almost always the only boat there. Wild goats roam the steep hill sides, pelicans dive into the huge schools of minnows and larger game fish roam the sides. Around the corner is a sea cave that is much deeper than anything at "the caves".

Coral in the middle, but great sandy patches at the end corners. Backwinding very possible.

Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

I think Zanshin is right on with the best spot. It is in the cut between Prickly Pear and Eustatia. A short dingy ride gets you to the great bar spots of the North Sound and you typically won't have to listen to Jimmy Buffett or Shaggy play at extreamly loud levels all night.

Unless I'm there.

Hello Zanshin. I hope your back to SXM between the 20th and 26th of February.
David.

Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

Palarran - I was keeping that spot between Eustatia and Prickly Pear in secret reserve and just mentioned the anchorage spots on the inside, but now that the cat's out of the bag I have to admit that you've mentioned the nicest spot
I'm in St. Martin now, but heading back to the BVI in a couple of days and think I'll still be around somewhere in late February.

Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

If you continue on into Eustasia Sound from the channel between Prickley I. and Eustasia I., you can work your way across the Sound and around to Oil Nut Bay, at the eastern-most tip of Virgin Gorda. It requires negotiating your way through some coral heads, but it's worth it for the isolation, peace and quiet. The anchorage is inside the reef and very calm, with a nice breeze. Beautiful spot!

We were there several years ago, and saw a roadbed being cut through the scrub. I hope it hasn't fallen victim to a development project.

Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

Hud - they've dredged the channel to allow deeper draft boats and have a big development at Oil Nut bay these days, so the term "secluded" no longer applies, but all the other adjectives still do..

Dang! I was afraid of that. Oil Nut Bay was one of the nicest places we dropped anchor, primarily because it was so isolated. You can see the road being cut across the hillside in April, 2005. I suppose it comes up from Birras Creek.

Called Rat Point on that chart...............has a small wooded platform with a wooden umbrella at the end and seems to be a spot for getting married. Prob why is called Honeymoon Point sadly two mooring now placed almost where i have anchored for about 10 years now - close enough to 'my spot' makes it impossible to anchor there now.

Highland Fling,

Got it. Rat Point = Honeymoon Point.
I have been in that gazebo many times. Great view from there.

Re: Best O/N BVI Anchorage

Highland Fling - I saw your boat and wondered if it was the same one from this forum and from the 07:30 morning net in St. Martin (plus we'd met at Barnacle's) but by the time I wanted to go over and say "hi" you'd gone. Wise choice, I was rocking and rolling in Grand Case for 2 nights. Next time the North Swell hits, I'll go into the lagoon or sail back to the BVI and use the shelter of the North Sound.
