Belize Diving & Marine Reserves

Belize Barrier-Reef Reserve System:
http://whc.unesco.org/pg.cfm?cid=31&id_site=764

Belize is probably best known for its scuba diving and snorkeling. The largest coral reef in the Americas, 300 km (185 miles) long, is found just off the coast, as well as offshore atolls, several hundred sand cays, mangrove forests, coastal lagoons and estuaries. Belize has recently taken steps to protect this natural wonder so that visitors will be able to enjoy it for years to come. The system's seven sites illustrate the evolutionary history of reef development and are a significant habitat for threatened species, including marine turtles, manatees and the American marine crocodile.

Their recent steps to protect their reef did not include towing off a trimaran following an elderly gentlemens grounding, in fact prevented another boat from towing him off as well until th eboat started to break up and theywere able to steal the contents.

I - for one will be avoiding this area
