Atlantic Circumnavigation

Wondered if anyone has done this. Leaving the US in late May, gong to Ireland, England, France, Spain, then Gibralter, Morroco then the off shore islands such as maderia, cape verde and canary islands, then back to caribean/us in December....
Figure 18-22 days to cross over and back, that leaves a fair amount of time to play. Looking at the pilot charts it seems doable.
This would be on a Endeavour 40.
Thoughts ?

Quite doable but I think you need to allow longer than 18-22 days. I would allow 30 days for US - Azores - UK, you will be ready to have a few days in the Azores by the time you get there.

As for the rest, you won't get a lot of sightseeing in but it can be done.

US to Ireland 22 days.. UK to Nth Spain 5 days.. Nth Spain to Azores 9 days.. Azores to Madiera 4 days.. Madiera to Portugal 6 days.. Portugal to Gib 36hrs.. Gib to Canaries 6 days.. Canaries to Cape Verde 6+days.. Cape Verde to Carib.. 18 days....
This is dependent on weather and sea conditions....
Do'able in the living room can often fall apart at the seams once you cast off...
Pilot Books only give you Averages... %gales/wave heights for set sq's on the chart.... I've found them to be wildly in error on many occasions... false hopes and a feeling that the "Gods are against you" when they're proved wrong....
Go for it and I hope you have a wonderful trip but .....

I'm hoping to make a similar trip in a few years. Leave US in late May headed for Ireland, and then try to get to the Canaries by December to depart for the Antilles, spend spring in the Caribbean islands, and make my way back up the US east coast before summer is over.

But I haven't done it yet. In any case, it is obvious that there won't be time to linger, and you probably will not get to every place you might want to visit.

tight ,technically possible, but tight Firstly you need to be clear of Biscay before end of August and even in summer ( especially last summer!) you can be storm bound in Ireland and the UK, not to mention that if you dont want to sail in the rain, you need time. Also for all that effort you will want tp spend time in these countries, You dont want a " its tuesday so it must be Spain" type of bus trip.

It would be a fantastic 2 -year trip.

Agreed on the time table. Thinking in a few years I can take off the time for a shore trip, then in 11 years do it right.
I am intrigued by this trip. Touches base with many of the places I want to go. A circumnavagation is not in the cards I think, but a North Atlantic trip sounds about right.
