My wife and I are anchored in
Thompson Bay on the
west coast of
Long Island in the
Bahamas and we need to be in
Panama by the first of June. After studying the
charts and guide
books carefully, it appears that there is a
route that goes south from where we are and if we time the tides right, we should be able to make it to the Atlantic with our 6’6”
draft.
My question is: Has anyone successfully navigated this
route before in a
boat with a similar
draft to ours? We don’t go fast enough to make it to South Point in one day - can anyone recommend a place to
anchor along the way?
On the other hand, if you sailed east from
Long Island and went around the north end, what was your sail like to Crooked Island, assuming you had prevailing easterlies/southeasterlies?
I’m grateful for any input.
Fair winds and calm seas.
