Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

Starting mid -march will be spending about 3 weeks sailing out of Antigua looking to go south and return to Antigua.
first time sailing here, I have the Doyle guide but was looking for any insight on sailing these grounds, including anchorages, must sees, must avoids, etc.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Re: Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

Antigua - English and Jolly Harbour. English harbour and the Heights - amazing lookout over english harbour. Jolly Harbour have a food shop and nice restaurants close to harbour. Go to Saint John at saturday, see meat and fish market - find local food in Pita Shack. Shop taxfree.

Guadeloupe has a lot more to offer regarding hiking, snorkeling, swimming in waterfall.

-Deshaies: No swell when on anchor. cool town and you can walk to Boastnical garden and have a nice french lunch in beutiful environment. Easy checking in at Pelikan cafe.

-Pigeon Island: snorkeling

-Route de Traverse: easy access to waterfall and djungle

-Anse a la Barque: beutiful anchorage on the way to Les Saintes

-Les saintes: Beutiful island south of Deshaies

Dominica have wonderful hiking and amazing djungle

Re: Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

Thanks Jonas,
We are picking up boat in English Harbor (Moorings) and can leave at noon. My plan was to take the boat out for a few hours see how it sails, etc and then anchor or moor in Falmouth Harbor for the night, heading out early to Guadeloupe. Should we just head back into English or is it a bit quieter in falmouth, if you have any thought on that?
Thanks again for your input

Re: Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

In English Harbour you can do some snorkeling when on anchor, there is also a nice beach. You can walk to the Heights from the English Harbour beach, but they have a big brown "Cujo"-like dog that is running around the beach at night. The anchor bottom is a bit tricky and boats keep swinging a bit around. Boats at anchor are very close to each other.

We did not anchor in Falmouth Harbour. There is a good anchorage with nice snorkeling at wreck in Deep Bay. We saw some giant turtles out at sea when we sailed from English harbour to Deep bay.

There is pretty much always space to anchor in Falmouth Harbour. English Harbour can get full but I have found a place to anchor in Falmouth even during race week.

Thank you, any part of the harbor better? Also are there any moorings available that you know of?

Re: Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

Isle de Sant, the saints S of Guadalupe is one of the best places I have ever been. And I have been to quite a few.

Get used to the wind between the islands can easily be a Force 7/8 on the beam.
Don’t go back and orth to Antigua as checking in and out and paying cruising tax can be a pain.

On a 3 week cruise out of the dockyard I would spend a few days around the S and W coast of Antigua and then when you are comfatuble with the boat take a early morning start S to Guadalupe.

Remember the currency is the Euro but US dollars will probably work but cost you!

Re: Antigua, Guadeloupe, Dominica

Hi there, looking to travel from Antigua to Dominica via sailing vessel. Checked the Dominica Gov site and it says Dominica is open with PCR test on departure etc. Can anyone confirm they have successfully arrived in Dominica via a vessel?
