Annapolis Broker recommendation

Howdy Folks,

My wife and I are currently boat shopping and so far have not had much luck in our home state (TX) and are now seriously considering heading to Annapolis for the US sailboat show in Oct. At this point we're thinking we'd due the show on Thurs-Fri to avoid the weekend crowds and then stay a couple days to look at some boats we're interested in around the area.

Is it realistic to try and schedule a good broker that weekend or maybe that Monday or will they all be tied up with the show?

Any recommendations for a good buyers broker in the area?

We have had good luck on a total of three transactions with Salt Yacht Brokerage in Rock Hall. Brokers will be extremely busy during the show but they will usually do what it takes to get you aboard that weekend if you're a serious buyer.

I would second Rogue Wave. Bought my second boat from them - Bernie and Kate were really helpful all the way through the search process, sale of my old boat and purchase of my next boat. They gave me advice on fitting the boat out and helped me with several things after the deal was done. The first boat I bought through another broker it felt like as soon as the paperwork was signed I was on my own.

I worked with Jack and Sharon Maletich in Rock Hall and Annapolis. Great experience. It was nice that Sharon could relate many of the things specific to my wife. Both have a world of experience. Not sure how active they are as brokers now that they opened S&J Yachts in Rock Hall. They sort of took over where Gratitude left off. Contact them info@sjyachts.com. If they are not still working as brokers they will have good resources on staff.

Scott, I have to really disagree here. I had an extremely bad experience with Bernie. Basically told me to my face that I was too poor to do business with him and that he wasn't going to waste his time... so adios.

I mean, if he had gone about it in a business like fashion, I would have understood but instead he insulted me directly to my face without blinking an eye.

Highly NOT recommended.

Flew to MD 3 years ago to look at a cat. The boat was blocked wrong causing the keels to pushed into the hulls 3". The broker said "thats normal in case of a hard grounding their meant to flex" I had to laugh in his face.. Not much diff than the broker in Key west, she said helms are supposed to wobble they are meant to break away in case you fall against it lol (base was delaminated ) finding a totally honest broker is like a totally honest used car dealer. Few and far between

Just as an FYI . . . . Hawk is for sale . . . . by owner right now . . . . . by I am also interested in a good 'selling' broker in annapolis if we don't find a buyer ourself.

We also bought our boat from Rich Kahn. He has been active in the business his entire working life. He truly enjoys sailing and boats,great guy to work with.
