Anchoring in Curry Hammock

Does anybody know the depth of the spiraling channel going into Curry Hammock Anchorage?
No indication of depth in any chart.
Can a sailboat with a 5' depth get through the channel without problem?
Somebody has experienced that channel?
Thanks

Re: Anchoring in Curry Hammock

It would be nice to know where Curry Hammock Anchorage/creek/whatever is located. Since folks on CF are from all over the known world and sometimes even unknown parts of the world, being a bit more specific about where the place you are asking about comes in handy as the Curry Hammock anchorage in Australia or the other one in England may not be the one you are interested in knowing about.

Re: Anchoring in Curry Hammock

Ovbiously the ones who don't know where it is would not answer the question... :-)))
and the subchapter was Atlantic and Caribbean.. so Australia is out of the game :-)))

It is in the Florida Keys , on the Ocean Side west of Long Key and east of Marathon

Never heard of it.

I suggest you go slow and use your depth sounder and your eyes, like any other wise mariner, and be prepared to reverse / kedge off / scream for help on the EPIRB.

See Chuck’s (Trawler Beach House) report:
Cruiser's Net » Archive » Good Report from Little Crawl Key and Curry Hammock State Park, off Hawk Channel, west of Duck Key

Re: Anchoring in Curry Hammock

Have a look at our Argus trackline page, http://argus.survice.com/vessel_tracking/images/trackline-MarinaLife.html since we have been in there a few times in the last few weeks. You can zoom in for more detail. We did find about 4 1/2 feet at the very first markers at a low, low tide. Anything from half tide or more and we never saw less than 5 1/2 feet with most of the channel at least 6 feet. As soon as you cross into the basin the depth goes to 8 to 10 feet with 6 feet near the back of the basin. There is a white float farther in, don't go past that. BTW, here is our complete postings on our visit. http://trawler-beach-house.blogspot....crawl-key.html and http://trawler-beach-house.blogspot.com/2012/12/curry-hammock-state-park.html . Chuck
