Abacos in February - Just for Fun

For the first time in nearly 9 years I doing a pleasure trip (not certifying anyone, no delivery).

Booked a Moorings 4600 for a week out Marsh Harbour with some friends starting Feb 24.

I have not been since 1992 (the 500th anniversary of Columbus).

Any suggestions? Provisioning? Dining? Anchoring? What to avoid? Whatever?

Anyone else going to be in the neighbourhood?

Jack

Do your own provisioning. A couple of good stores in Marsh Harbour now. Lots of charter boats there now. Our first trip there was 1984, busier, less fish and much more commercialized now. Lots of restaurants. Having said this, we haven't been to Abaco for four or five years. Everyone goes to Nippers on Great Guana. If you like crowds stay in the Hub area. If you don't go as far north as quickly as possible.

Manjack/ nunjack is gorgeous and so cruiser friendly, Light house at Hope town, man o war, nippers @great guana, all fun places, Tahiti beach is nice and you can dinghy across for the full moon party or just to eat n drink. Going south a little bit Sandy Cay has the best snorkeling in the bahamas. Any tablet program with active capt integrated will show tons of anchorages and places to see. I like Jeppeson plan 2 nav. Works great. We will either be in the abacos or exumas then.

There is an abacos forum that's pretty active and lots of locals participate. They are usually yammering about local events and are pretty friendly.

A belated thanks.

Not sure of our boat name, but it is a Moorings 4600.

Re: Abacos in February - Just for Fun

The Manjack anchorage is a great collection of real cruisers. Always something going on, be it cookouts, full moon parties or some very good jam sessions depending on who is around. Provision yourself at Maxwells in Marsh Harbour and head on up. Tingum is at Plum Crazy on GTC
