Yacht Marina, Marmaris, Turkey

We are in Yacht Marine, Marmaris for approx. 12 days while we do some jobs and wait for friends to join us. We have been in the bar twice during our week here to watch some sport and each time been served in an unpleasant and offhand manner by the staff. I mentioned this to someone who has kept their boat here a long time and was told ' dont say anything, wont do any good, and they will ask you to leave and not let you back'. His reasoning was the marina management and staff knew they could replace any leaving yachts with many others so they don't care- this is a cheap place long term. Not that cheap short term, we are paying 20 euros a night, water and electricity extra, and I have come to the conclusion I am being naive to be disappointed.

20 euros a night is very cheap, walk into town for some real turkish hospitality, and smile it works wonders, sad to see the bar staff are jaded, but they have probably had to put up with the $500/month crowd over the winter..............a small tip can set you apart from the herd as well......

For 20 eupos a night I'd happily accept a grumpy waiter.
When we got charged 200 euros for a night in Pt Salinas, Formentera in 2006 it was me who was grumpy with the waiters........

Re: Yacht Marina, Marmaris

I think you must have caught them on a bad day!! We have been to Yacht Marine many times and the bar staff are wonderful. They make a bit of fun at the customers expense sometimes but that's all part of the crack. You will struggle won't find a cheaper bottle of Efes anywhere in Turkey. I think the blonde barmaid is called Cabria - learn her name and she will have a laugh with you. It really is a great place and certainly NOT expensive compared with other marinas.

There are 3 bar staff in that marina: a girl, an older guy, and a younger guy. The guys are friendly and pleasant to chat with, especially the older guy who has a wonderful optimistically cynical view at life.

Then there is the girl... She is always very grumpy, offhandedly serving you drinks, with a one-per-month smile reserved for *Turkish* megayachts.

The OP is right - no smiles, no friendly chat, no tips can get her into a better mood. She is well known in the marina.

The rest of the staff is much better though
