Wintering in Greece

I have a new update on Messolonghi Marina. My son, Nick, has been there for two days and said the place is really humming along and the staff have been great. They are buffing and waxing my hulls and they look great. Gregory has been really helpful with answering any questions Nick has. Vangelis is going to help him with a few mechanical repairs and the marine store is stocked and the staff is helpful. They are getting me a new propeller for my dinghy at a cost similar to what it would be here in the States. I may need a new house battery bank so we'll see how the price compares.

All in all, according to Nick, it's a totally different and really good experience this year. Now, hopefully they can still launch on our scheduled date Then they will be perfect.

We have been sailing in Greece this 2014 summer. No tax implemented. The Greek people doubt if it will ever be implemented.
Have also been to Gouvia (anchor). Gouvia is a great marina, well equiped but expensive; at their pricelist we, Lagoon 380, should pay 3000 euro for 6 winter months.

Beware the Varta batteries sold in Greece. Hobby 105 amp. We bought 13 in Pireaus in June 2011 and had trouble from day 1. Ended up replacing all 13 batteries in less than one year. Forget about any warranty unless you remain in the port where the batteries are purchased. Also, those were the most expensive batteries we have purchased to date. Lowest quality and highest priced.

Thanks for the warning Judy. I probably bought them just under a different brand name. I think the ones I got were Rocket batteries and cost 1000 euro for 10 installed. Probably like you I ended up with no choice. I'm hoping they will make it through next season so It only costs me $300/month (4 months out of 24) use for the batteries. At this point I don't care as it seems to be a cost for cruising. My charging regimen is crap though because I run my generator or a motor when the boat needs it, not necessarily the batteries.

Missolonghi marina is open for business since June 2019(Last year, i.e. 2018 there was staff there but could not accept boats for any length of stay due to regulatory issues).
Very protected.
Connection to Athens is through Patras.
Old posts about Leros, Gouvia, Lefkas, Preveza are still correct.
In Preveza town new marina started operation in this month. Look for Preveza Marina.
