What Are Firearm Laws in Turkey ?

Planning to fly into Istanbul to take sailboat from Turkey trans-Atlantic to US.

Anyone know about buying firearm in Turkey for passage, then legally sailing it out?

According to Noonsite.com as of March 2009,

All types of firearms must be declared, and will be sealed on arrival by customs. Also, diving tanks must be declared.

Couldn't find anything on exporting them, nothing looked promising..

You can buy shotguns at sports stores/fishing shops on presentation of passport which will be copied.

Difficulty is that it wont be registered in your home country and thats what you require to take it into mast (civilised) countries.

Great if you are heading down the red sea and through pirate alley, though. Take guns through but throw them overboard before Asia.

According to this article
Turkish gun shops go from back alley to mall - Hurriyet Daily News and Economic Review

“... Foreigners with residence or work permits in Turkey also have the right to buy rifles and handguns if they fit certain criteria...”
