Hi !

it now looks likely that changes will be introduced with effect from February 2012.
The link gives - as I know - the most recent information about this subject.

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Do you know the list of countries they're changing the entry requirements for? I tried to search online, but can't find anything...

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Turkey faces a political problem. I do not know the implications for EU citizens but things seems to cool off quickly.
US-Turkish relations are not that good either. Take it from there.

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Hi Jacques,

I couldn't open the link you gave but haven't heard anything about this. I checked the website of the Turkish Foreign ministry web site, not a single word on it. I assume they would have warned people a bit ealier as there tgwo days left to 2012
On the other hand, the government is making the life of foreigners in Turkey more difficult every day. Althought there have been no changes on the legislations, we see that working and residence permits are granted with much shorter terms and are increasingly more difficult to get. Said this, the govenment is not stupid enough to change the visa regulations, Turkey is making 22 Bio USD each year out of tourism..
Cheers

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Hi !
This is another link with the same information :
Turkish visa law changes in 2012 | World Tourism and Aviation News
The fact is most of the news I have are coming through french friends who are living aboard in Turkey and who are afraid of these changes.
I am not personally concerned as i sail somewhat 2 1/2 months each year in Turkey (and not more the 3 months.
Maybe is it a rumor, I do not know.
I, myself can no more open the link i gave first. The same for the link on Noonsite .

PS : For Beneteau5OO : You are right I wrote about rumors in a former thread, but it was about the "BlueCard", I think.

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Turkey starting to (re)assert itself in that region and internationally - probably finally twigged that there future not in the EU, so no need to carry on kowtowing to the West, part of that bringing in visa laws that more reflect what the Turks themselves get elsewhere (next to SFA) - won't affect the 2/3 week tourist trade which is most of the tourism.

IMO anything over 3 months a year and "you" are not really a tourist anymore.

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

This new visa law does not apply to citizens from the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and most of the EU countries.

For us as USA citizens, Turkish visa rules remain the same as in the past -- 90 days in and we can reset the clock by going to Greece for a day. This was confirmed last week by the Alanya Marina management with a visit to the Antalya Immigration office by members of the UK cruising org.

As far as the last 2 years go, entry is no longer free for Australians. Not sure why, but we got charged for SWMBO's entry. Still ok for NZ Passport though.

Re: Turkish tourist visa changes ?

Well, a bit of more fırst hand info which was also checked with Marmaris foreign police office..

Actually what I've said earlier is justified; Tukey doesn't make more difficult to get the visa, just the contrary. For many countries including Russia and Ukraine the visa have been lifted. But, staying periods in Turkey are now more limited and for instance escaping for one day to Rhodes and coming back doesn't set up the new clock.. If you spend say 30 days in Turkey, you need to spend 30 days elsewhere before returning and reapplying for visa...
This rule though seem to have created a lot of problem and complaints , hence, the ministery is working on another regulation which is due in pretty soon.

Turkey has also made a lot of change in the residence permit and if you have any reason to stay more than 30 days or come in and out frequently, the residence permits are granted much easyly. ( earlier it was almost impossible)

If you own any property in Turkey or if you have a boat under contract in any marina, you just take yr passport and the copy of the contract and residence permit is issued for you, yr family and yr crew.

In short, we want a lot of tourist, we make the entry easier ever, but we don't want the tourist hang on for more than 30 or 60 days (depending on the nationalities) unless they have a good reason to do so
Working permits is a different issue and as I said it's getting more difficult every day.
Hope this clear out the issue a bit more.

Cheers
