Text forecast for Baltic

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to subscribe using Saildocs for a downloadable text forecast in English for the Baltic Sea?

I am already subscribing to met.1b but this only seems to go as far east as the Norwegian and Danish North Sea coasts.

Thanks,

Re: Text forecast for Baltic

Did a quick offline check on Airmail and found Germany produces a text forecast for the Baltic as well as Navtex that are available through Winlink (not Saildocs). I couldn't download them via the Internet as there appears to be a problem between Winlink and the server that distributes these bulletins.
I never sailed in the Baltic so I've not used these bulletins, but I did use the German forecasts for the Med via RTTY and Winlink.
Here's a screen capture of the Winlink bulletins available via Airmail.

I couldn't find anything in the Saildocs library so if you are limited to Sailmail you may want to check out the DWD RTTY schedule. The bulletins available from Winlink are likely available via RTTY.

Bob,
Overall, if you want text weather for Sea Areas A1 and A2, NAVTEX is usually the best bet...
But, if your looking for an HF broadcast, the German DWD signals are very good...

In case you are interested in NAVTEX from/for the Baltic, here are the NAVTEX stations....

Well, as you can see, most oft the stations are Atlantic oriented..
Baltic Sea is like a bath tube, has its very specific conditions, perhaps like Great Lakes. f.e. there 's only few inches tide, but if strong easterly or westerly winds blow, water swaps on higher level at shore, after it the wave turns to the opposite shore. That' s widely unknown.

Last week North Sea coast had gale warning, here 30mls /55Km more east at Baltic Sea was only 3bf. and sea like a pond.

Re: Text forecast for Baltic

can anyone suggest how to receive warnings and forecasts via email. I would like to have warnings and daily forecasts sent to an email address for the area I am currently in. Right now we are in the bay of biscay so I would like a summary of that area plus warnings sent as they happen. Perhaps navtex would be suitable. I have scoured the saildocs site and a few others but cant find a good solution. Preferably free and activatable/deactivatable by an email code similar to saildocs.
I am thinking if I have warnings sent to my iridium number I can receive it free and probbaly in real time while on passage.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Text forecast for Baltic

monte,
Why do you want to receive coastal weather warnings and forecast by email, requiring an Internet subscription? You can get them for free with a Navtex receiver, which also provides navigation safety information (notices to mariners).

Navtex range is over 200 Nm from the transmitter. In the Bay of Biscay (S Brittany), I receive weather forecasts on the Navtex from the UK, French, Spanish and Irish weather offices. The British and French bulletins include an "extended outlook" describing the expected situation over 5 or 6 days.

Re: Text forecast for Baltic

Yes I have navtex. I would like to receive similar forecasts and warnings via email. Why? because iridium sends free emails to satellite phones so if I subscribe I will receive free weather warnings via satphone and not have to rely on picking up a Navtex signal. I think Navtex has the ability to end info via email, Im just not sure how to subscribe to the service or similar service.
