Sweden -- Gas Bottles

I am running out of cooking gas, and it looks like I might leave Estonia tomorrow. I carry a 5kg Finnish/Estonian gas bottle in addition to my regular UK Calor butane bottles. I would normally exchange it for a full one prior to going West, but it didn't work out this year.

I presume I'm going to have to buy yet another type of gas bottle, in order to get some cooking gas in Sweden?

Anyone know what they look like, how much they cost?

Hi! To bad they don't have any standards on those things . Best way I think is trying to fill one you already have directly from the store. Adapters are also a way to go. Finland,Denmark and Norway I think have the same click connection but Sweden have threads on them. A bottle is not that expensive around 1500skr but still problem white connection.

Hope for the best.

We've been cooking electric for the past three years. We also have a propane bottle and a butane bottle stored but disconnected in the on deck storage locker for when needed.

Just buy yourself a $99 Nuwave induction hot plate and a $125 Nuwave infrared oven, and never run around chasing silly bottles ever again.

You can buy these things anywhere:

Thanks -- I do have an electric hot plate, so we won't starve when the gas runs out. Finding the power for electric cooking is not a problem on my boat, although the shore power up here is often only 10 amps and sometimes 6, but I have a power boosting inverter.

But I have four people on board during August, including a couple of enthusiastic cooks, so the hot plate is not optimal. I will need to sort out some gas pretty soon.

My next boat will be all-electric and no gas on board at all, but that's a different conversation . . .

Thanks!

So I'm out of luck unless I buy yet another type of bottle . Nor do I consider 1500skr inexpensive. The connection would be no problem..

I guess I need to try to get by until Germany -- don't they have the click connector bottles too? And in any case, in Germany the gas bottles are very cheap and you can give them back for a deposit.

Glad to hear you will have warm meals. To buy a gas bottle here may complicate things aboard and add weight

The Nuwave is not a hot plate, it's a lightweight, mostly plastic device. We have two of them which store away in a small cabinet when not in use. Just trot down to a local department store or supermarket and buy a couple. Problem solved, no need to wait for a new boat or eat cold meals.

\Jonte.
I have heard now from several sources that many Swedish gas suppliers will refill non-Swedish bottles. Maybe that's the solution?

I have a quite new and good Finnish bottle which is just like a Swedish one except that the regulator clips, rather than screws on.

But you also need the induction cookware, correct?

Re: Sweden -- Gas Bottles

No, not correct. The Nuwave comes with a handy skillet, but most of your existing cookware will work with it, just so long as a magnet will stick to the bottom of it.

Dockhead, maybe this might be of use?

Or, maybe not.

Thanks, definitely useful!

We will cook on our hot plate while in port, for a while, to conserve what gas we have left. Gas shortage is also a good excuse to have a barbecue Maybe try to pick up one of Ken's induction hot plates to supplement what we have.

Maybe try to get the Finnish bottle filled in Kalmar. Kalmar is a rather industrial place and with a lot of yacht industry (Isotherm is there for example), so maybe a good prospect.

I've been reading the Swedish forums with help of Google translate, and it looks like filling foreign bottles is fairly common in Sweden.

Re: Sweden -- Gas Bottles

Next time you're home you could invest in an adaptor kit like these....

GasBOAT 4018 Marine Universal Gas Cylinder Adaptor Kit at SOCAL

Then just borrow a local bottle and decant, saved me much more than the cost over the past few years.
