Sunsail charter mid october from Marina Agana

Hello all

May i ask your advice as to how to make the most of four short days of sailing that we hope to enjoy next week? We're chartering a boat with Sunsail from their Agana Marina, near Split.

It seems we are overwhelmed with choice in the area, so I would love it if anyone could share recommended highlights?

We would love perhaps one cultural day in town, or to see historic places?

Other than that we are open to all suggestions!

I'd recommend Stomorska on Solta, Stari Grad on Brac, Pakleni Islands next to Hvar (anchorage), then Trogir back on the mainland as an itinerary. Trogir is a World Heritage Site and Stari Grad is also very historic. Look at the entries for all these harbours on the World Cruising Wiki at http://www.cruiserswiki.org/wiki/Croatia.

I sailed Croatia for 6 years and there is certainly a huge choice - In Split there is only Decletians Palace -which does not really warrant a full day, but it is interesting . I think that south of Split is prettier . Milna on Brac is an easy sail - then anchor in the Pakleni Islands and catch a water taxi from the little AC Marina into Hvar for early evening and dinner ( away from the square - up the hill a little way ,some lovely alleys and restaurants . sail to Korcula town - old town is lovely - then the Bay of Polace on the Island of Mjet , really beautiful -then back to base - Hope this helps Rgds Garth

Re: Sunsail charter mid october from Marina Agana

Hi,

We just returned from a week in that area. What places to visit depends very much on what kind of a week you want to have, and what the weather will be like. Both of those can change once you are there.

In October the weather can bring rain and strong headwinds, depending on where you are going. Or it may be almost totally calm.

My recommendation would be
- plan your trip on the go, deciding each morning what your crew would like to do that day, taking into account the weather.
- note that darkness will fall soon between 5 and 6 pm, and you may need to decide whether you wish to sail, motor or just stay in some harbor. If you sail until 5, there is not much daylight left to explöore the harbor. What does your crew think? Are they tired or eager fpr more?
- Trogir is very much a tourist trap with busloads of tourists, and away from the best island harbors. Stari Grad is much nicer in atmosphere.
- in general there are so many places to see. If you just look at the example itineraries for one or two week Sunsail flotillas you find all the nice places there. Note that the itineraries are different in sunsail.com, .eu, and .co.uk. There you have ideas, and can decide each morning where to go.

"Just my two cents."

Actually, Stari Grad is on Hvar island, not Brac - my mistake.
