Exclamation SCAM's Beware!

Hi all as you know our lovely Catamaran is for sale.

Well we have had THREE enquiries and all seemed genuine. They were scams trying to get our bank details (non given)

The thing to be aware of is that you get an e-mail the states "I want to buy your boat" Each of them started like that so now I am aware.

Exclamation Re: SCAM's Beware!

Hi tried to edit but seems on this site it is not possible/

Anyway we also had another similar SCAM from some one purporting to be an USA military in Iraq. His €22,000,000 was with the red cross and could we help him by him buying our boat, investing the rest for him and he would give us 30% for doing that.

Need not say any more. I suggested he was a SCAM and got no more replies.

Re: SCAM's Beware!

If he had 22 million Euro, why on earth would he be in the military in a war zone? Last I heard Red Cross does not hold money for soldiers.

Re: SCAM's Beware!

Think it is some sort of free clasified adverts run in the US, list your boat, car, wife for sale etc

Re: SCAM's Beware!

Craig's List is a world-wide free "for sale site", a lot of great deals, but it is awash with scammers! Best to just put in ad, will only respond to phone call and write out number such as seven two three, etc.

Re: SCAM's Beware!

Peter, you need to have fun with these people and make them waste their time and money.

"YES! I'd love to help you out but I'm going to be out of town on business for two weeks, do you think you could send your check by DHL or Fedex, any type of express courier that can get it here before Friday so I can put it on the bank and do the rest before I go out of town?"

Then tell them it arrived water-damaged, the bank would not take it, please send another...be creative, stretch things out. Have fun.

Sara-
Isn't it funny how WU can't seem to use, require, or confirm IDs the same way that everyone else does? I suppose that's terribly convenient for secret agents and druggies so perhaps someone thinks it should be encouraged, huh?

Re: SCAM's Beware!

I had a couple of those when I sold my last boat through Ebay. My responce was, "sure, you can hand over the money when you view the boat in person". Needless to say, no responce.

Re: SCAM's Beware!

I had a series of conversations with a Nigerian scammer. Tried to get him to send me five dollars so I could catch a bus to my bank and send him my inheritance. Here is some of it:

Subject: RE: More Details&My Work Id

Dear Eric ,

Oh! my goodness, I have been expecting to hear from you since. Thank God you are here. It was nice meeting with you and also to have your willingness to partake of this transaction with me. At first, I must let you know that this is not a hoax arrangement or any kind of joke. I am freely giving you full details of this transaction bearing in mind that you will not betray me. My full names are Bernard A. Williams. The name of the bank I work for is Ghana Commercial Bank Limited and presently I am senior manager, IT Operations Kumasi Branch. I did not use my full name and details of my proposal in my first letter to you because I was not sure of what your reactions might look like having such message from someone you have never met before or been into any form of pre-existing relationship with. I thank God for your understanding. And you must know that it is not always compulsory to have a relationship with person before you become the next of kin.

Regards,
Bernard Williams
