Over-wintering in southern Portugal

Hi,

We would like to leave our sail-boat (13.5m LOA) for the '16/'17 winter in southern Portugal. I would prefer to leave the boat out of the water but that's not an absolute requirement. Lagos Marina and Blue Water Algarve (Portomao) have been suggested to us.

We would be grateful for any thoughts, advice, cautions or horror stories.

Thanks,

Bob

Google Bruces yard Faro.
Centre of town, close to airport and a hard standing right in Faro centre.

Hello,

Any of the four marinas will offer good service. I leave the links for the web pages. If you are going to "visit" the boat during the winter, the ones you refer to would be my favourite. They are not as "touristic" as the other ones and the cities Lagos and Portimão will not close for winter.

Marina de Albufeira

Love Portugal, make sure you stop in Alvor, our favorite place down south.

I spent a while at Vilamoura Marina.

Absolutely bullet proof. nice folks, easy to get supplies. Good wine, and a short hope to Lisbon, Puerto Sherry, Cadiz and Gib. less than 10 miles to Faro Airport.

The nicest and better place to leave the boat is Lagos. The city is beautiful the marina is nice and you have an excellent shipyard, closed and surveyed. The service is good. If money is not really on the short side it would be the one I would chose and I know well Algarve.
