Marinas in NW Italy

Hi, we're moving our Moody 44 east this summer from her current berth in Valencia, heading towards Italy. I wondered if anyone could recommend a marina on the NW coast of Italy, Genoa down as far as Rome ? Preferably close to airport links. We'll be leaving the boat there for at least 12 months. Thanks

There are many, most of them expensive. You would have plenty to chose. It is for leaving the boat there or to live in the boat?

Hi, we would be leaving the boat unattended for long periods...I'm also trying to find one where I can have the boat lifted out for some maintenance.

On our way back from Rome we stopped in Pisa. There were several boats there (mostly UK) that had choosen to spend the winter there. So rates must be reasonable.
In Porto di Roma (Ostia), 2 years ago I enquired about the rates for spending the winter in the harbour and I was pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable amount of euros.

Hi, not on the mainland, but our boat is in Northern Sardinia, at Porto Torres. 30 mins from Alghero airport, and also a main ferry port, so good links.

Rates are much cheaper than mainland!

Re: Marinas in NW Italy

We stopped for a number of weeks last summer in Porto Turistico di Roma, in Ostia. Big marina, with a significant live-aboard community. That whole coast is not especially scenic, but the marina has a good number of restaurants, coffee shops, gelaterias, and a good chandlery. The company called Boat Services is one of the better boat services and maintenance groups we've ever encountered, and can handle the haul out in the boatyard right there. They can help you in Spanish, Italian or English.

The marina is a long walk to two really excellent full scale grocery stores. Best part, PT di Roma is a very short cab ride to Rome Fiumicino Airport, and either a plane to anywhere or the fast train to Rome.

Tecnomarine, Livorno
When we bought our boat last year it was in a yard in Livorno. They can lift a 44ft boat (ours is 49). It is not a place to stay on board. Carlo, the owner, is great. Very helpful. Its just down the road from Pisa airport. The price is good. Contact:

How did you find your time over there in Valencia ?

I asked my italian mate (fortunately, we work on the same office together) and he recommends you two marina : venezia certosa marina and capo d'orlando marina.

In term of convenience/prices/accessibility/good time, they are quite good.

Hope it helps !

Lavanga is a good place to leave your boat, pretty much everything there 40min by train to Genova. reasonable rates,. Also good cruising area.
