Marina's around Athens

Hi all,

I am flying to Athen's next month to start my hunt for a boat and also a much needed holiday ,While in Greece we are staying close to the Acropolis but I would like to be able to wander around a marina check out the boats and whats for sale, Also are the fingers closed off to the general public ?
Any one know where I should start.
Thanks
Graham

Alimos Marina is a good starting point as it is THE marina for charter yachts close to Athens and you can freely wander around. You will find very little "closed to the general public" in Greece. For some sites - like the Acropolis, museums and the like - the "general public" has to pay a ticket to get in.

Thumbs up Good luck

Would be interested in hearing about your search as this is what I am hoiping to do in a couple of years time.
As an Aussie, I have been using websites (ybw.com etc) to explore boat prices in the Med as I am planning to spend several years as a liveaboard in a couple of years time.
I realise that I need to explore visa requirements but as both my parents are of British heritage, I was thinking of appplying for dual citizenship and so obtain a British passpport.
Good luck in your search.
Mark

Hi Mark,
We met a Sydneysider in 05 who had purchased a Bavaria ex Greece and was meandering back to Oz the long way round - with wife and two kids on board. Med. Atlantic. Carib. Pacific. Oz. He was not worried about his nationality at all.
Good luck
JOHN

Thanks for the reply, John.
Have read many of your threads and have often checked out your blog.
My thoughts on obtaining a British passport were more concerned with allowing for an extended stay in, and easier access to, countires around the Med.
Despite the right-winged leanings of our present government and its heartless treatment of refugees, I am a proud Aussie.
Best wishes
Mark

Hi Mark,
Me too (re proud Aussie).
Despite viewing charts, some people are often suprised how close non eu countries are across the med- closer than say Sydney to Gold Coast.
So zipping out of the eu for a day and re-entering 24 hours later is relatively simple if securing a Brit passport proves to be too hard.
Anyway - good luck and hopefully see you sometime on the water.
Regards
JOHN

Nip down to Poros and visit Greek Sails (off the ferry, turn right keep walking down the front till almost the end of the line - 5 mins) they may not have boats for sale but they'll know a lot of what's going on, worth making contact if you're in the area. Good place to visit too.
