looking for thrift/charity stores (un-successful)

I was pleasantly surprised in Cyprus to find several charity shops that satisfied my cravings (Yes ! I am a dumpster-diver)
and now , whilst in Greece, I have not found any and my enquiries have been fruitless.
Given the economy, I would have thought their would be plenty of pawn brokers / charity shops....
So, am I not looking in the right places ?

Kris ( just bought another NEW item - AARrrrggghh !)

Re: looking for thrift/charity stores (un-successful)

thrift/charity/2nd hand/pawn shops are very much an english phenomon.
cyprus has a large uk cypriot and uk expat population, hence the prevalance.

in the rest of southern europe you will not find charity shops due to the social stigma attached, apart from malta and gib.

in greece, turkey, italy, france, spain what you will find are flea markets in town squares a few days a week with plenty of junk to keep you more than content, though local knowledge/reasearch will be required to find out where and when.

Something else to try, ask at the Greek Orthodox churches. They may have 'em for parishioners.
