Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

A second vote for albufiera, if you do stop visit sharkies bar, and isles du cullatra offers a well sheltered anchorage,

Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

I have a Portuguese friend who regularly goes where others don't in Culatra...and with a very deep draft.

His detailed, illustrated instructions can be found here:

How to enter and anchor in Culatra, Faro, Portugal

It's like a private cruising guide.

Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

Hello all,

Any updates to this thread? We're currently in Porto (wow, what a place, could stay here six months!), but have to press on south to Lisbon.

Anyone been there recently? Is Oeiras still the marina to head for?

Any help would be most welcomed.

Regards,
Simon

Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

Thanks Monte,

Have heard the same recently about the anchorage. But also heard the marina is really pricy?

Any ideas how much for 11.3m?

Also I've heard Oeiras is good? But that sounds like it's more up river.

Hi Simon....

Go to Oeiras. It is a bit more up river from Cascais but worth it.
Ask for a Manuel Dantas and tell him Ron sent you.
They are all great guys there and you'll enjoy the stay and the marina.

As far as I'm aware there's Cascais Marina.. the anchorage in the bay by the beach.. the only Lisbon marina is Alcantara up the river and past the bridge on the left bank.. all the others are full with local boats.

Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

There's a list of all your marina and berthing options on my web site, jimbsail.info/ ; on the tidal-europe/west-portugal page. Not mentioned so far is a good value option six km up river from Alcantara, connected to town by Metro.

The same page lists Porto facilities, so you can check if my opinions match your experience!

Avoid Alcantara..noise from the bridge is like sitting in a beehive

Re: Lisbon Portugal Marina advice?

Hello there,
Portimao is a very nice marina, although a bit pricey, but the entrance is big enough to anchor and very well protected... and the surrounding is beautiful with great beaches inside.
Olhao is also a nice place with the possibility to anchor in the Ria Formosa right behind the Ilha Culatra, with nice small bar and restaurants and a small supermarket. The Ria is very well protected too for anchorage.
if you are planning to touch ground further north, I would recommend Peniche, and have a walk around, the scenery is breath taking, also if you can, go and visit Obidos, a medieval town almost intact and if you can afford it, spend the night in the Posada in Obidos.
On the way to Gibraltar, stop in the Guadalquivir for the night or so, you can anchor there, no facilities tho. Of course Cadiz is a must.
I don't recommend Tarifa as the easterly swell come in and can be dangerous.
I hope it help!!!
Sebastien.
