Leisure Boat Regulations for Mediterranean

May some guy help me
I'd like to know about the leisure boat regulations that can be questioned in Italy in practice (acknowledgement for other countries are welcome).

1. Our boat is German Flagged and less than 10m (9.65m) length.
2. With my wife, we are Turkish citizens with valid EU visas,
3. Our boat was built in 1987, we don't know about her VAT status, we bought it in 2007
4. We don't have a Grey Tank and Bilge Tank, only a Black Tank
5. I don't have a VHF licence
6. is (not more than 1% sulphur) fuel certificate a must?

Thank you

Hello Altera,
All your questions may be answered in the Italian waters pilot ( Imray, Rod Heikell) A certified VAT status looks the most important issue to me.

Hi.

Agree VAT might be biggest issue.

VHF licence is a must unless you completely take the VHF off.
Still, I think if you dismount it and store it away, you might get away with having it on-board.

In an emergency you could still connect it. Be ready to answer questions from officials then though.
Alternatively store away a handheld for emergency use only.

Regarding holding tank, I think the grandfathering rule applies.
Best to have a copy of this on board.

Good luck & enjoy!

I too think a pain in the lower back clerk here or there may become anal on your VAT.

Read into this, if any of the contained info relates to your case:

Value Added Tax and Yachts: An Overview « www.yachtworld.com www.yachtworld.com

If you can't prove you are VAT-solved, consider importing the boat where it is less expensive. This makes financial sense on any expensive boat.

I have heard of French authorities asking VHF questions (this one is easy, just take the course and get your license - it is often a one day adventure).

Good luck and happy sailing!

Our boat is in Karpaz Gate Marina in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, I want to sail to Sicilia in January. Kuşadası was home for our boat for 2 years, great place, nice personnel. Maintenance/repairment is a little bit troublesome, big and touristy town. We left our home in Istanbul for Marmaris/Köyceğiz

VAT is no problem if you sail out of the EU/Schengen area for a few days..
